De-stress during stress awareness week
Did you know that April is stress awareness month?
The World Health Organization says that stress is one of the most significant problems of our time. As if our lives weren’t stressful enough, we’ve had to deal with a global pandemic for the last two years.
Stress comes in many different forms, but generally, it is a feeling of emotional or physical tension and our body’s way of reacting to a certain challenge or demand.
Some of us might experience the emotional signs of stress, such as constantly worrying or feeling forgetful. Others of us may experience physical signs, such as muscle tension or headaches. Some of us may experience both of these, while others don’t notice anything at all.
But don’t worry, there are a few that can help you to destress, relax and relieve tension.
Perhaps you could try:
Exercise
Exercise is not only good for your physical health, but it’s also great for your mental health. Walking or jogging for at least 10 minutes will help to release endorphins into the bloodstream and boost your mood.
If running isn’t your thing, then how about something more calming like yoga? Yoga brings together the mind and body to encourage relaxation and decrease the secretion of cortisol, the primary stress hormone.
Eating healthy foods
Stress can have a negative impact on our blood flow which can cause fluctuations in brain blood flow and brain health. However, by adding omega-3s (found in oily fish and flaxseed), and vitamin E (found in sunflower seeds, almonds, spinach, and avocados), to your diet you can alleviate stress.
Get outside
With the weather (hopefully) about to get sunnier and warmer, you’ll be able to spend some time outdoors. You may like to get out into the garden and look after your plants or perhaps you could take a stroll along the seafront, whatever it is, getting outside in natural sunlight helps your body to release serotonin and boost Vitamin D levels.
Massage
But perhaps the best way to combat stress is with a massage! We specialise in massage and holistic therapies and know how relaxing and beneficial they can be.
You can choose from our traditional massages or explore something a little more specialist, such as an Indian head massage or reflexology. But exclusively for the month of April, you can book our Stress Reliever Pamper Package.
This three-part treatment is the ultimate in relaxation. Starting with a warming Lava Shells massage, complemented by aromatherapy oils, we’ll ease the tension in your back, neck and shoulders. Next, we’ll work on your legs and feet to make you feel like you’re walking on air. Finally, we’ll end with a Divine Escape head massage to clear your head of any stressful thoughts and relieve tight muscles for a deeply calming, unwinding experience.
